RESUMEN

Objective: This study analysed blood donation deferral trends, reasons and demographic/lifestyle characteristics among students in Huzhou City. The aim was to understand the health status of students and reduce the deferral rate. Methods: Data on blood donation deferral among students in Huzhou City from 2018 to 2022 were collected and analysed. Deferral trends and main reasons were investigated. Using demographic and lifestyle data from 2,619 cases in 2022, a risk prediction model for deferral was constructed. Results: The deferral rate among students in Huzhou City from 2018 to 2022 was 12.60% (p = 0.000, 95%CI: 12.14-13.06%), showing a significant increasing trend. Temporary deferral was the main reason, with alanine aminotransferase (ALT), blood pressure (BP) and haemoglobin (Hb) as the main deferral factors. ALT had a deferral rate of 5.23% (4.92-5.53%), BP 3.30% (3.06-3.55%), and Hb 2.92% (2.68-3.15%). Demographic and lifestyle characteristics in 2022 showed no significant differences between education level, household registration and deferral rate (p > 0.05). However, age, sex, blood donation history, sleep quality, diet and mental state had variable effects on ALT, BP, and Hb deferrals (p < 0.05). Logistic regression showed that sex, blood donation history, sleep quality, diet and mental status were independent risk factors for ALT deferral (p < 0.05), with odds ratios (ORs) of 5.057, 2.735, 1.594, 3.679, and 1.957, respectively. Age, blood donation history, sleep quality and mental state were independent risk factors for BP deferral (p < 0.05), with ORs of 0.256, 3.658, 6.042, and 1.812, respectively. Gender, blood donation history and diet were independent risk factors for Hb deferral (p < 0.05), with ORs of 0.244, 0.542, and 3.103, respectively. Conclusion: Students' health problems require attention. Effective health education should improve self-health management and pre-donation health behaviour to encourage regular blood donation.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Countries routinely offering acellular pertussis vaccine, where long-term protection is not sustained, have the challenge of selecting an optimal schedule to minimise disease among young infants. We conducted a narrative systematic review and synthesis of information to evaluate different pertussis immunisation strategies at controlling pertussis disease, hospitalisation, deaths, and vaccine effectiveness among young infants. METHODS: We conducted a review of the literature on studies about the primary, booster, and/or maternal vaccination series and synthesised findings narratively. Countries offering the first three doses of vaccine within six-months of life and a booster on or before the second year or life were defined as accelerated primary and booster schedules, respectively. Countries offering primary and booster doses later were defined as extended primary and booster schedules. All search results were screened, and articles reviewed and reconciled, by two authors. The Risk of Bias in Non-randomised Studies of Intervention tool was used to evaluate the risk of bias. FINDINGS: A total of 98 studies were included in the analyses and the following recurring themes were described: timing of vaccination, vaccine coverage, waning immunity/vaccine effectiveness, direct and indirect effectiveness, switching from an accelerated to extended schedule, impact of changes in testing. The risk of bias was generally low to moderate for most studies. CONCLUSION: Comparing schedules is challenging and there was insufficient evidence to that one schedule was superior to another. Countries must select a schedule that maintains high vaccine coverage and reduced the risk of delaying the delivery vaccines to protect infants.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and risk factors for syphilis in Huzhou City, and to provide data to support the design of more effective health counselling and screening measures for blood donors. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted to analyse the demographic characteristics and seropositivity of syphilis among blood donors from 2019 to 2021. The differences in the serological status of syphilis among different populations under different demographic factors were compared, and conditional logistic regression analysis was used to identify the risk factors for syphilis. RESULTS: The seropositivity rate of syphilis among blood donors in Huzhou City was 133/100,000, which decreased year by year. There were significant differences in the syphilis seropositivity rate among different groups in terms of age, education level, occupation, household registration, marital status and blood donation history (P < 0.05). The multivariate logistic regression model showed that all six factors, including age, education level, occupation, household registration, marital status and blood donation history, had significant effects on syphilis infection (P < 0.01), with OR values and 95% CIs of 2. 387 (1.381-4.127), 3.607 (1.609-8.086), 2.784 (1.657-4.679), 5.074 (1.865-13.804), 11.177 (3.481-35.888), and 11.244 (3.940-32.091), respectively. CONCLUSION: There is room for improvement in pre-donation health counselling and screening of high-risk populations. Timely monitoring and updating of demographic data for specific high-risk populations is essential.

RESUMEN

Virtually all living cells are encased in glycans. They perform key cellular functions such as immunomodulation and cell-cell recognition. Yet, how their composition and configuration affect their functions remains enigmatic. Here, we constructed isogenic capsule-switch mutants harboring 84 types of capsular polysaccharides (CPSs) in Streptococcus pneumoniae. This collection enables us to systematically measure the affinity of structurally related CPSs to primary human nasal and bronchial epithelial cells. Contrary to the paradigm, the surface charge does not appreciably affect epithelial cell binding. Factors that affect adhesion to respiratory cells include the number of rhamnose residues and the presence of human-like glycomotifs in CPS. Besides, pneumococcal colonization stimulated the production of interleukin 6 (IL-6), granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), and monocyte chemoattractantprotein-1 (MCP-1) in nasal epithelial cells, which also appears to be dependent on the serotype. Together, our results reveal glycomotifs of surface polysaccharides that are likely to be important for colonization and survival in the human airway.

RESUMEN

Background: Fruquintinib is a highly selective tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR). At present, it has been approved for third-line therapy for advanced metastatic colorectal cancer in China. Like other small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitors, adverse reactions such as hand-foot syndrome, hypertension and cardiotoxicity may be seen. However, acute aortic dissection caused by fruquintinib has not been reported so far. Case Description: Here, we report a case of aortic dissection. The patient, a 61-year-old man with advanced metastatic colorectal cancer, without history of hypertension or other risk factors for aortic dissection, received fruquintinib as the third line of treatment. Six weeks after oral fruquintinib treatment, the patient developed acute aortic dissection, and the occurrence of the adverse effect was determined to be probably related to the use of fruquintinib. This article focuses on the potential pathogenesis of fruquintinib-induced active dissection. Conclusions: We reported the first case of fruquintinib-associated aortic dissection, and discussed the possible mechanism of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-VEGFR signal pathway (VSP) inhibitors leading to aortic dissection. As a new drug, fruquintinib brings not only clinical benefits, but also brings some adverse reactions. Clinicians must be vigilant to the cardiovascular toxicity caused by small molecular tyrosine kinase inhibitors, especially the severe cardiovascular toxicity, and strengthen monitoring and management.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) have a high incidence of vascular endothelial injury. The most important pathophysiological feature of OSA is chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH). This study aimed to investigate the mechanisms of CIH-related vascular endothelial injury. METHODS: IH exposure was applied to human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). After modeling, cell viability, the expression levels of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ (PPARγ), apoptosis-associated proteins and mitochondrial division fusion proteins, and the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) were assessed via Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), western blotting, fluorescent microscope, and flow cytometry, respectively. Rosiglitazone (PPARγ agonist), tempo (the mitochondrial-specific antioxidant), and tempo combined with PPARγ interfering RNA were used to treat HUVECs, respectively. RESULTS: After IH exposure, cell viability and levels of MMP decreased, cell apoptosis and ROS levels increased, and the expression levels of PPARγ decreased. Both tempo and rosiglitazone pretreatment ameliorated cell apoptosis and improved cell viability. In addition, mitochondrial function became better after tempo pretreatment. PPARγ interference reversed the protective effects of tempo on IH-related mitochondrial function injury and cell injury. CONCLUSIONS: PPARγ regulated the apoptosis and cell viability of IH-treated HUVECs by altering mitochondrial function. This finding clarifies the mechanism of CIH-related vascular endothelial injury.

RESUMEN

Objective:To assess the effectiveness of a model created using clinical features and preoperative chest CT imaging features in predicting the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) among patients diagnosed with lung cancer. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical (age, gender, smoking history, smoking index, etc.) and imaging (lesion size, location, density, lobulation sign, etc.) data from 444 lung cancer patients confirmed by pathology at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University between June 2014 and March 2021. These patients were randomly divided into a training set (310 patients) and an internal test set (134 patients) using a 7∶3 ratio through the random function in Python. Based on the results of pulmonary function tests, the patients were further categorized into two groups: lung cancer combined with COPD and lung cancer non-COPD. Initially, univariate analysis was performed to identify statistically significant differences in clinical characteristics between the two groups. The variables showing significance were then included in the logistic regression analysis to determine the independent factors predicting lung cancer combined with COPD, thereby constructing the clinical model. The image features underwent a filtering process using the minimum absolute value convergence and selection operator. The reliability of these features was assessed through leave-P groups-out cross-validation repeated five times. Subsequently, a radiological model was developed. Finally, a combined model was established by combining the radiological signature with the clinical features. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and decision curve analysis (DCA) curves were plotted to evaluate the predictive capability and clinical applicability of the model. The area under the curve (AUC) for each model in predicting lung cancer combined with COPD was compared using the DeLong test. Results:In the training set, there were 182 cases in the lung cancer combined with COPD group and 128 cases in the lung cancer non-COPD group. The combined model demonstrated an AUC of 0.89 for predicting lung cancer combined with COPD, while the clinical model achieved an AUC of 0.82 and the radiological model had an AUC of 0.85. In the test set, there were 78 cases in the lung cancer combined with COPD group and 56 cases in the lung cancer non-COPD group. The combined model yielded an AUC of 0.85 for predicting lung cancer combined with COPD, compared to 0.77 for the clinical model and 0.83 for the radiological model. The difference in AUC between the radiological model and the clinical model was not statistically significant ( Z=1.40, P=0.163). However, there were statistically significant differences in the AUC values between the combined model and the clinical model ( Z=-4.01, P=0.010), as well as between the combined model and the radiological model ( Z=-2.57, P<0.001). DCA showed the maximum net benifit of the combined model. Conclusion:The developed synthetic diagnostic combined model, incorporating both radiological signature and clinical features, demonstrates the ability to predict COPD in patients with lung cancer.

RESUMEN

Objective:To establish a three-dimensional model of locking plate fixation for 42A2 type oblique tibial fractures with different fracture line directions and different angles between the fracture line and the long axis of the tibia. Finite element analysis was used to calculate and analyze the biomechanics of locking plate, screw, and tibia, providing theoretical basis for clinical application. Methods:A healthy adult volunteer, 25 years old, male, with a height of 173 cm and a weight of 69.5 kg, was selected to perform computed tomography (CT) scans on the left tibia. Relevant data were obtained to establish a locking steel plate fixation model for 42A2 type tibia with different oblique fracture line directions and different angles between the fracture line and the long axis of the tibia. Eight hole pure titanium plates were used for fixation, respectively. We compared the Mises stress changes of locking plates, screws, and tibia in different angle fracture models. Results:In the case of a 42A2 type fracture in the left oblique direction with a fracture line from outside to inside, the maximum Mises stress in the tibia was 114 MPa, the maximum Mises stress in the screw was 279.8 MPa, and the maximum Mises stress in the locking steel plate was 302.4 MPa; In the case of a 42A2 type fracture in the right oblique fracture with a fracture line from the bottom to the top, the maximum Mises stress of the tibia was 93.41MPa, the maximum Mises stress of the screw was 353.4 MPa, and the maximum Mises stress of the locking steel plate was 411.8 MPa.Conclusions:Regardless of the oblique fractures in both left and right directions, the maximum stress values are: locking plate>screw>tibia; When the position of the locking steel plate is fixed, the maximum stress values of the locking steel plate and screw are both right oblique fracture>left oblique fracture; And the maximum stress values all increase with the increase of angle.

RESUMEN

To understand the current situation of occupational burnout, turnover intention, and professional self-care among social workers under the context of epidemic prevention and control, and the role of professional self-care in the relationship between occupational burnout and turnover intention, this study investigated 1 066 social workers in Fujian Province with Professional Self-Care Practice Scale, and the Burnout Scale. SPSS 26.0 and its PROCESS plug-in analysis were used, the results showed that the proportion of social workers with moderate and severe occupational burnout accounted for 44.22% and 29.99% respectively, the proportion with turnover intention in the past year accounted for 25.67%, and the average score of professional self-care was (22.57±5.98) points. There was a significant positive correlation between occupational burnout and turnover intention (r=0.29, P<0.01). Professional self-care of social workers was significant negatively correlated with occupational burnout (r=-0.46, P<0.01) and turnover intention (r=-0.16, P<0.01). Professional self-care played a moderating role in the relationship between occupational burnout and turnover intention (β=-0.01, P<0.05). This paper indicated that social workers had a high degree of occupational burnout and turnover intention, low level of professional self-care under the context of epidemic prevention and control, and the attention should be paid to the protective role of professional self-care.

RESUMEN

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic heterogeneous airway disease characterized by persistent and progressive airflow restriction, which can be divided into stable COPD and acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD). Its morbidity and mortality remain high, posing a serious threat to human health. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) believes that COPD belongs to the categories of "cough", "dyspnea syndrome", "lung distension", etc. And its basic pathogenesis is intermingled phlegm and stasis with deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality. Qianjin Weijingtang, derived from the Records of Proved Prescriptions, Ancient and Modern (古今录验方), consists of Phragmitis Caulis, Persicae Semen, Coicis Semen, and Benincasae Semen, with remarkable functions in clearing the lung, resolving phlegm and eliminating blood stasis, and has definite clinical efficacy in treating COPD and its syndromes. At present, in clinical studies, Qianjin Weijingtang has been used to treat COPD with modifications. It can be used alone or in combination with other prescriptions/western medicines to treat stable COPD, AECOPD, COPD complications, and other TCM syndromes of COPD such as phlegm-heat-stagnation obstructing the lung syndrome. It can significantly improve clinical symptoms, lung function, and blood gas indexes, and inhibit inflammatory response. Animal experiments mainly explored the mechanism of COPD from the level of pathological changes. Specifically, the underlying mechanism may be related to regulating T helper 17 (Th17)/regulatory T cells (Treg) balance, up-regulating single immunoglobulin IL-1-related receptor (SIGIRR) for resisting inflammation, up-regulating hyperplasia suppressor gene (HSG) and inhibiting Wnt signaling pathway activation to inhibit airway remodeling. It was found that there were many problems, such as low quality of clinical research, failure in sharing research standards, and the lack of mechanism research. This article systematically reviewed clinical studies of Qianjin Weijingtang in the treatment of COPD and its mechanism based on animal experiments in recent years, and put forward thoughts and suggestions according to the existing problems to provide references for the clinical application and further research on Qianjin Weijingtang.

RESUMEN

Objective:To explore any effects of combining virtual reality training with aromatherapy in caring for Alzheimer′s disease patients in a nursing home. Methods:Fifty nursing home residents with Alzheimer′s were divided at random into an observation group and a control group, each of 25. Both groups received routine rehabilitation, while the observation group was additionally given 45 minutes of virtual reality training combined with aromatherapy, 3 times a week for 6 months. Both groups′ cognition was then evaluated using the MMSE and an Alzheimer′s cognition assessment scale (ADAS-cog). Psycho-behavioral symptoms were quantified using the Alzheimer′s disease pathological behavior scale (BEHAVE-AD). Motor functioning was quantified using the timed up and go test (TUGT), the 30-second sit-to-stand test (30sCST), the 30-second arm curl test (30sACT) and the sit-and-reach test (CSRT). Ability in the activities of daily living (ADL) and life quality were quantified using the activity of daily living scale and of the quality of life scale for Alzheimer′s disease (QOL-AD) before and after the intervention. Results:After the intervention the average MMSE, ADAS-cog, BEHAVE-AD and ADL scores of both groups had improved significantly, with the average improvement in the observation group significantly greater than that in the control group. The TUGT, 30sCST, 30sACT and CSRT results of both groups were also significantly better, with those of the observation group again significantly superior, on average, to the control group′s results. The average QOL-AD score in the observation was significantly improved after the intervention, and was then significantly better than the control group′s average. Conclusions:Virtual reality training combined with aromatherapy can significantly improve the cognition, psycho-behavioral symptoms, activity in daily living, motor functioning and life quality of Alzheimer′s patients in a nursing home. It is worthy of promotion and application in nursing homes.

RESUMEN

Objective:To explore the correlation between the self-directed learning ability of medical students and the effect of flipped classroom teaching. Methods:The questionnaire survey was used. From November to December 2020, 123 students of 5-year program enrolled in 2019 in Peking University Health Science Center were chosen as the study objects and Neurobiology is a required course for them. The Medical Students' Autonomous Learning Ability Assessment Scale (MSALAAS) was used to assess the students' self-directed learning ability. The final examination score and a questionnaire survey were used to assess the teaching effect of the course. Descriptive analysis and Mann-Whitney analysis were used to analyze the change of self-directed learning ability of students after the course. One-dimensional linear regression was used to analyze the influence of self-directed learning ability on the final examination score, course experience and course assessment. Results:The total score of MSALAAS was increased from [(109.84 ± 14.12) points] to [(113.65±15.88) points] ( P<0.05) after the course. If the total score of the MSALAAS was referred to as an independent variant, and the final examination score, the course experience and course assessment was referred to as a dependent variable, respectively. The one-dimensional linear regression analysis showed that the total score of the MSALAAS was correlated with the final examination score ( B=0.248, t=3.59, P<0.001), the course experience ( B=0.049, t=3.15, P=0.002) and course assessment ( B=0.048, t=3.18, P=0.002). Conclusion:Flipped classroom teaching can promote the improvement of the self-directed learning ability of medical students. In converse, the students with higher self-directed learning ability might achieve higher examination score and get the better course experience and assessment.

RESUMEN

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of less invasive surfactant administration (LISA) combined with nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in the treatment of infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).Methods:A prospective study was conducted on preterm infants of gestational age ≤34 weeks with RDS who were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Xuzhou Central Hospital from October 2019 to November 2021. The infants were randomly assigned into the LISA+NIPPV group and the intubation-surfactant-extubation (INSURE) +nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) group. In the LISA+NIPPV group, with the support of NIPPV, a Lisa tube was inserted through the vocal cords under direct vision with direct laryngoscope, and then pulmonary surfactant (PS) was infused into the lung. In the INSURE+NCPAP group, the patients were endotracheally intubated and infused with PS into the lung through endotracheal tube, then extubated and continued to receive NCPAP therapy (INSURE). The blood gas analysis at 1 h and 6 h after PS infusion, the adverse reactions during injection, clinical efficacy, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and other related complications were compared between the two groups. Results:A total of 112 preterm infants with RDS were enrolled, including 58 in the LISA+NIPPV group and 54 in the INSURE+NCPAP group. The blood oxygen partial pressure (PaO 2) and PaO 2/FiO 2 (P/F) in the LISA+NIPPV group were significantly higher than those in the INSURE+NCPAP group at 1 h and 6 h after PS infusion, while carbon dioxide partial pressure (PaCO 2) were significantly lower than that in the INSURE+NCPAP group, and the differences were statistically significant (all P<0.05). The rate of tracheal intubation within 72 h (15.5% vs. 33.3%), the duration of non-invasive ventilation [ (7.5 ± 4.3) d vs.(9.9 ± 5.5) d ], total oxygen inhaling [ (10.5 ± 3.5) d vs.(13.3 ± 4.1) d ], failure rate of machine withdrawal (8.6% vs. 31.0% ), the times of apnea [7.0 (3.0-21.0) times vs. 15.0 (4.0-28.0) times ] and re-administration of PS (17.2% vs. 33.3%) in the LISA+NIPPV group were significantly lower than those in the INSURE+NCPAP group, and the differences were statistically significant ( P<0.05). The incidence of regurgitation in the LISA+NIPPV group was lower than that in the INSURE+NCPAP group (13.8% vs. 35.2%), and the difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the time needed for intubation between the two groups ( P>0.05). The occurrence of BPD in the LISA+NIPPV group was significantly lower than that in the INSURE+NCPAP group (10.3% vs. 25.9%), and there was no significant difference in other related complication between the two groups (all P>0.05). Conclusions:LISA combined with NIPPV in the treatment of preterm infants with RDS can effectively improve oxygenation, reduce carbon dioxide retention, reduce the mechanical ventilation rate, shorten the duration of noninvasive mechanical ventilation, and reduce the incidence of BPD.

RESUMEN

Lumican is a member of the small leucine-rich proteoglycan family, which is involved in cell processes related to tumorigenesis and development, such as epithelial-mesenchymal transition, cell proliferation, migration, invasion and adhesion. The expression of Lumican in different tumors is positively or negatively correlated with tumor progression, and can be used as a reference for tumor prognosis and efficacy evaluation. Further study of the correlation and potential mechanism between Lumican and tumor therapy resistance can provide new ideas for predicting clinical therapeutic efficacy.

RESUMEN

BackgroundBeing complex and highly heterogeneous with regard to the etiology and clinical manifestations of depression, neuroimaging studies make a breakthrough for exploring the biological subtypes of depression, while the current data-driven approach for the identification of subtyping depression using structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data is insufficient. ObjectiveTo explore the biological subtypes of depression using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and machine learning methods. MethodsA total of 127 patients with depression who attended Beijing Anding Hospital from September 2017 to August 2021 and met the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition (DSM-IV) diagnostic criteria were included, and another 80 healthy individuals matched for gender and age were recruited through advertisements in surrounding communities during the same period. DTI findings, demographic characteristics and clinical data were collected from all participants. Tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS) and the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) white matter probability maps were used to extract fractional anisotropy (FA) values of white matter tracts. A semi-supervised machine learning technique was used to identify the subtypes, and the FA values for whole brain white matter of patients and controls were compared. ResultsPatients with depression were classified into two biological subtypes. FA values in multiple tracts including corpus callosum and corona radiata of subtype I patients were smaller than those of healthy controls (P<0.01, FDR corrected), and FA values in middle cerebellar peduncle, left superior cerebellar peduncle and left cerebral peduncle of subtype II patients were larger than those of healthy controls (P<0.01, FDR-corrected). Baseline Hamilton Depression Scale-17 item (HAMD-17) score yielded no statistical difference between subtype I and subtype II patients (P>0.05), while subtype I patients scored lower on HAMD-17 than subtype II patients after 12 weeks of treatment (t=2.410, P<0.05). ConclusionDepression patients exhibit two biological subtypes with distinct patterns of white matter damage. Furthermore, the subtypes respond differently to the medication treatment. RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo explore the clinical application of molecular classification in endometrial cancers with the next generation sequencing (NGS). MethodsTotally 112 cases of endometrial carcinoma diagnosed by pathology in The Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center were collected. All of them were tested by hybridized-capture second-generation sequencing based on 1,021 gene panel. The molecular variation spectrum of each subtype and its relationship between the clinicopathological features were analyzed. ResultsThe cases were distributed as follows: 8 (7.1%) POLE mutation, 34 (30.4%) mismatch repair deficient, 26 (23.2%) TP53 mutation, 44 (39.3%) non-specific molecular profile. The median tumor mutation burden was respectively 252.0, 38.4, 5.8 and 5.4 Muts/Mb. There were no significantly differences among four subtypes in clinicopathological features such as age, histological grade, lymph node metastasis and clinical stage. PTEN (75.5%), PIK3CA (66.7%), ARID1A (55.9%), TP53 (40.2%), NF1 (29.4%) were the most common mutations in endometrial cancers. ConclusionsThe utilization of NGS in endometrial cancers can simultaneously identify molecular subgroups, screen Lynch syndrome and obtain molecular variation spectrum, which can provide guidance for immunotherapy and targeted therapy, contribute to further accumulation and exploration of molecular genetic characteristics.

RESUMEN

Age-related macular degeneration(AMD)is a common eye disease causing irreversible visual impairment in the elderly. The tight junction(TJ)between retinal pigment epithelium cells(RPECs)is an important structural unit of the outer blood retinal barrier(oBRB). The TJ is defective in the pathogenesis of AMD, which in turn promotes the destruction of oBRB and accelerates the occurrence and progression of AMD. In this paper, the roles of TJ and TJ protein in maintaining oBRB function, TJ protein abnormality and oBRB destruction in the pathogenesis of AMD were reviewed, aiming to provide new ideas for the treatment of AMD.

RESUMEN

Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM), a common chronic metabolic disease, is often accompanied by internal heat syndrome. Heat-clearing prescriptions are widely used to treat different heat syndromes of T2DM from the aspects of clearing stagnant heat, excess heat, damp heat, phlegm heat, and heat toxin, demonstrating remarkable effects. The mechanism of blood sugar-lowering agents has always been a hotspot of research. Recently, the basic studies of heat-clearing prescriptions from different perspectives have been increasing year by year. To clarify the mechanisms of heat-clearing prescriptions and find specific mechanisms, we systematically reviewed the basic studies of heat-clearing prescriptions commonly used for the treatment of T2DM in the past decade, intending to provide a reference for related research.

RESUMEN

Objective To evaluate the impact of deep learning reconstruction algorithm on the image quality of head and neck CT angiography (CTA) at 100 kVp. Methods CT scanning was performed at 100 kVp for the 37 patients who underwent head and neck CTA in PUMC Hospital from March to April in 2021.Four sets of images were reconstructed by three-dimensional adaptive iterative dose reduction (AIDR 3D) and advanced intelligent Clear-IQ engine (AiCE) (low, medium, and high intensity algorithms),respectively. The average CT value, standard deviation (SD),signal-to-noise ratio (SNR),and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) of the region of interest in the transverse section image were calculated.Furthermore, the four sets of sagittal maximum intensity projection images of the anterior cerebral artery were scored (1 point:poor,5 points:excellent). Results The SNR and CNR showed differences in the images reconstructed by AiCE (low, medium, and high intensity) and AIDR 3D (all P<0.01).The quality scores of the image reconstructed by AiCE (low, medium, and high intensity) and AIDR 3D were 4.78±0.41,4.92±0.27,4.97±0.16,and 3.92±0.27,respectively,which showed statistically significant differences (all P<0.001). Conclusion AiCE outperformed AIDR 3D in reconstructing the images of head and neck CTA at 100 kVp,being capable of improving image quality and applicable in clinical examinations.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND@#Amygdala plays an important role in the neurobiological basis of panic disorder (PD), and the amygdala contains different subregions, which may play different roles in PD. The aim of the present study was to examine whether there are common or distinct patterns of functional connectivity of the amygdala subregions in PD using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging and to explore the relationship between the abnormal spontaneous functional connectivity patterns of the regions of interest (ROIs) and the clinical symptoms of PD patients.@*METHODS@#Fifty-three drug-naïve, non-comorbid PD patients and 70 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. Seed-based resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) analyses were conducted using the bilateral amygdalae and its subregions as the ROI seed. Two samples t test was performed for the seed-based Fisher's z -transformed correlation maps. The relationship between the abnormal spontaneous functional connectivity patterns of the ROIs and the clinical symptoms of PD patients was investigated by Pearson correlation analysis.@*RESULTS@#PD patients showed increased rsFC of the bilateral amygdalae and almost all the amygdala subregions with the precuneus/posterior cingulate gyrus compared with the HC group (left amygdala [lAMY]: t  = 4.84, P  <0.001; right amygdala [rAMY]: t  = 4.55, P  <0.001; left centromedial amygdala [lCMA]: t  = 3.87, P  <0.001; right centromedial amygdala [rCMA]: t  = 3.82, P  = 0.002; left laterobasal amygdala [lBLA]: t  = 4.33, P  <0.001; right laterobasal amygdala [rBLA]: t  = 4.97, P  <0.001; left superficial amygdala [lSFA]: t  = 3.26, P  = 0.006). The rsFC of the lBLA with the left angular gyrus/inferior parietal lobule remarkably increased in the PD group ( t  = 3.70, P  = 0.003). And most of the altered rsFCs were located in the default mode network (DMN). A significant positive correlation was observed between the severity of anxiety and the rsFC between the lSFA and the left precuneus in PD patients ( r  = 0.285, P  = 0.039).@*CONCLUSIONS@#Our research suggested that the increased rsFC of amygdala subregions with DMN plays an important role in the pathogenesis of PD. Future studies may further explore whether the rsFC of amygdala subregions, especially with the regions in DMN, can be used as a biological marker of PD.
